Did you know lavender is toxic to cats or that comfrey and yarrow are toxic for dogs?! A common question I get is if my salves are okay for pets... and I've always said NO - until today!
The key to making a "pet-friendly" formula was to first limit the number of ingredients, then eliminate essential oils and then ensure the herbs I used for the infusion are generally agreed to be appropriate and beneficial for pets! Plus, because it has a natural, mildly herbacious and earthy aroma, they are less likely to want to lick it! My research for this salve was directed towards dogs and cats; please do additional research for other animals.
✱ BONUS: This salve isn't just perfect for paws and pets... it's people friendly too! In fact, because of the short list of mild ingredients and NO essential oils, this might be a great option for those with exceptionally sensitive skin!
HOW TO USE IT: To speed up the healing process and to prevent (or fight) minor topical infections, apply a light layer of salve to sores, stings, cracks, hot spots, rough calluses, and other skin irritations 2-3 times daily. Larger, oozing wounds or sores should always be evaluated by a vet.

MY FORMULA: INGREDIENTS & WHY I PICKED THEM
DANDELION: Dandelion is naturally anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and anti-microbial... which means this is a pain-relieving, infection fighting salve!
PLANTAIN: Is a star skin healer because it contains allantoin, which promotes skin regeneration and reduces scarring. It also has anti-bacterial properties which make it a great infection fighter and preventer! It's also anti-inflammatory which contribute to this formula as a natural pain reliever!
SWEET ALMOND OIL: This oil is packed with vitamins and compounds that moisturize and soothe skin... even the skin of our pets, making Sweet Almond Oil a great base for this salve! Unless your pet is allergic to nuts - then this might not be the salve for them.

WHAT IS THE SHELF LIFE? The shelf life of my salves is 1-2 years; however you'll enjoy the most medicinal benefit within the first year.
- A NOTE ABOUT CONSISTENCY: Depending on the temperatures where you live, your salve will arrive with a general consistency between a neosporin-type oinment and a slightly firm vaseline. Softness of the salve will vary based on your particular climate and seasonal temperature. Since the salve contains beeswax, avoid leaving in a hot car or in the sun to prevent melting. Your tin will be shrink wrapped to prevent any dripping if it does happen to soften during transit. If melting does occur, simply put it in the refrigerator to return it to its normal consistency.
